  Pranayama Importance
Yoga breath is the component of all yoga classes assisting in proper posture and asana, total health, and the regulation of body temperature, blood pressure, and digestion. Practicing yoga and pranayama maintains the function and health of the vital organs by bringing fresh oxygen and increasing prana. Regular practice of the yoga sutra of breath will bring greater relaxation to the mind and body and appreciation for yoga meditation.

Pranayama - Importance of Yoga Breathing

The Principle of Yoga, Pranayama, brings total health. This extends beyond how we look, or our appearance, however - the benefits of yoga breath reflect in ways that can be seen by others.

Health through practice of Yoga brings your inner fire that fuels your dreams, motivation and direction to life. The yogis body becomes strong and healthy and a glow comes to the face and eyes. The body becomes purified by the practice of Pranayama. In a world raped by pollution of nature and mentality, this is most important - most necessary to living well.

Focusing on Your Breath

We all know how to breathe. It is an automatic reflex, bringing flesh oxygen to the blood and mind through balanced circulation and helps to bring control over our body and its defenses.

Stress builds by our daily actions, thoughts and interactions. Heart problems, mental fatigue and conditions and poor health are associated to repressed or poor breathing. Swami Vishnudevananda, trained by Sivananda, offered the following tips to understand the importance of yoga breath:

  1. Focus attention upon the ticks of a clock placed at a distance of about twelve feet.
  2. If you get distracted, try concentrating harder until you experience the ticking with undivided attention.
  3. If you fail at first, you should try again and again until you succeed in keeping the ticking clearly in mind for at least a few seconds.
Did you hold your breath or did it become shallow? This can cause our immune system to weaken and tiredness to overtake the mind. Your breath delivers the oxygen your cells need to function and flourish and to stay healthy.

Changing the bad habit of shallow breath may include exercise, movement and the desire for change. The key is: Take a breather. Smell the roses. Inhale deeply. You are on the road to improving your health.

Now go and practice!
